Embroidery, Sequin, and Bead Eclectic Bag Creations!

Remember this post where I showed you my embroidery-on-floral-sheet project?  Five months later, I am finished making this boho tote bag!  I had used that project to have some more fun with doing latticework embroidery, where you laid threads in a criss-cross pattern and then stitch x‘s over each crossing.  I aimed to cover many of the big flowers with embroidery, and then a couple of small ones.  It has been one of those projects I pick up and put down at random times, or taken with me while traveling.  Very relaxing to work on.  A month or so ago, I started to speed through it, and then I was able to assemble a bag.  The next fun part was picking out a lining.  I happened to have some pink and white striped vintage sheet fabric, so in it went!  Voila:

Ha, I couldn’t crop my messy living room out of this photo, but you’ll notice we are book lovers…and the white sheet is what I use much of the time when I photograph my products for sale.  I really like the scattering of embroidered flowers all over this bag – what do you think?  And how do you like the striped fabric as a contrast?

I’ve finally been able to add a couple more bags to my Etsy shop.  I had so much fun making these!  First up, this red and white linen wrist bag.  I experimented with a new bag shape, and I like it.  I love red and purple together, so I added a handmade purple silk flower to the linen (any Red Hat Society ladies reading?).  You can see more photos and details at the store listing, but suffice it to say that I loved working with the clear red beads!!  Can you spot them in this photo?

And next (and one I got even more excited about making!) is this bright yellow padded wrist bag.  Here, I finally got to experiment with hand-sewing sequins so that the thread doesn’t show.  It’s simple to me now, but when I tried previously, I could NOT figure it out!!  Anyway, I hand-drew a flower and stems on the yellow linen fabric and then started sewing sequins around the design.  See how the holographic sequins reflect the light and create sparkle on the green and the blue?  I LOVE that!!!  After I finished that, I sewed on some buttons and embroidered flower petals around those.  Then I put more embroidery lines inside the green petals, and attached a glass purple peacock bead in the middle.  You can see photos and details on the shop listing.

I aim to do more of this kind of work of embellishing bags and such with sequins, beads, buttons, and embroidery – the more colour and sparkle, the better!  Stay tuned!
